Rheinmetall to Supply Ukraine with Additional Marder IFVs

The German defense contractor Rheinmetall is set to supply Ukraine with 20 more Marder infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs), following instructions from the German government

This new order, placed in March 2024, represents a significant investment, with the contract's value reported in the mid-double-digit million euros range. The delivery of this latest batch of vehicles is anticipated within 2024.

Rheinmetall has previously supplied the Armed Forces of Ukraine with a substantial number of Marder vehicles through direct deliveries and circular exchange programs, reaching a three-digit figure. The upcoming batch will feature the 1A3 Marder version, which is enhanced with built-in laser rangefinders for precise and effective target engagement.

This is not the first instance of Marder combat vehicles being supplied to Ukraine by Rheinmetall; the first 20 vehicles were delivered in March 2023 on behalf of the German government. Subsequent deliveries have included several more batches, each consisting of a double-digit number of vehicles.

Germany's Role in Supporting Ukraine Germany has emerged as a crucial ally to Ukraine, offering a spectrum of support that includes military aid, political backing, and financial assistance. The country has supplied Ukraine with various military assets, such as different models of Leopard tanks, IRIS-T and Patriot air defense systems, artillery pieces, ammunition, vehicles, drones, and more.

Berlin has recently announced a new package of military assistance for Ukraine, reinforcing its commitment to support. Additionally, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has played a role in Ukraine's European integration efforts. However, Scholz has maintained a cautious stance on the transfer of long-range Taurus missiles to Ukraine, with discussions on the matter still ongoing.
