On May 23, Croatia, Slovenia, Italy, Greece, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Albania, and San Marino signed a declaration on Russia's unjustified invasion of Ukraine. The declaration is not a binding document and only conveys the position of states regarding Russia's invasion of independent and sovereign Ukraine.
"We, representatives of governments (…), deplore in the strongest terms the illegal and unjustified aggression of Russia against Ukraine (…). We reaffirm our commitment to the sovereignty, independence, unity, and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized limits (…)," the declaration proclaims.
The declaration consists of 25 points and was signed by the foreign ministers of the states after a closed meeting in Tirana, Albania.
We recall that Serbian president Aleksandar Vucic said that although his state suffers from the refusal to impose sanctions against Russia, his state will evade this step to the very end. To which he received an answer from Josep Borrell that Serbia is obliged to join the sanctions if its plans include joining the European Union.
