Start of work of the Permanent Representative of the World Bank in Ukraine

On July 3, the permanent head of the World Bank representative came to work in Kyiv

The World Bank informs that from today the permanent head of the World Bank representative office will work in Ukraine. Gevorg Sargsyan previously managed the WB's Ukraine and Moldova programs within the Eastern Europe Administration.

"Despite the Russian invasion, the World Bank and its partners are ready to continue to help the Government of Ukraine to address the key needs of the people, so that hospitals work, children go to school, and pensions are paid," Gevorg Sarkisian.

"The war caused enormous damage to the country, but the Ukrainian people and government demonstrated incredible resilience. Through our projects and technical assistance, we will help Ukraine achieve a prosperous, peaceful and stable future."

Mr Sarkisian's competence is working with countries affected by severe internal and external conflicts and with unstable economies: Myanmar, India, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Armenia, Georgia, and many other countries in Europe, Asia and Africa for 20 years.

Gevorg Sargsyan has ABD in economics, makes research in renewable energy, clean energy and energy efficiency, and has several scientific publications in these fields. And now he will help Ukraine directly from its capital.

From February 24, 2022, the World Bank financed Ukraine for more than $37.5 billion thanks to guarantors and donors from the USA, Japan, Great Britain, Norway, the Netherlands, Spain, Germany, Canada, Switzerland, Sweden, Denmark, Austria, Finland, Ireland, Lithuania, Latvia, Iceland and Belgium.
