European Union to allocate €100 million for the reconstruction of destroyed schools in Ukraine

This was reported by Ursula von der Leyen in the annual address On the state of the Union in the European Parliament.

"I announce that we will work with you to support the restoration of Ukrainian schools because the future of Ukraine begins in schools and children. This is in addition to the financial assistance of €19 billion provided by the EU to Ukraine," the politician said.

According to Ursula von der Leyen, the international community will contribute €100 million. With the help of this amount, they want to restore 74 educational institutions destroyed due to the Russian aggression. The European politician also noted that the EU will take part in the reconstruction of Ukraine, so a lot of resources are needed.

The first lady of Ukraine, Olena Zelenska, told a little more on this issue. Fast Recovery Plan will be implemented for the announced European money. Rapid reconstruction aims to build destroyed schools before the beginning of winter.

A month ago, minister of education and science Serhii Shkarlett reported that 15% of general secondary education institutions in Ukraine were damaged or destroyed. 261 schools were completely destroyed, and 2.061 were damaged. 1.300 educational organizations are under Russian occupation.
