Terra A2 drone interceptors begin operational deployment in Ukraine

The fixed-wing system developed by Terra Drone Corporation with WinnyLab is being used to protect critical infrastructure from hostile UAVs

Ukraine has started using the new Terra A2 drone interceptor in operational air defense tasks. The system was developed by Japan’s Terra Drone Corporation together with the Ukrainian defense company WinnyLab, and its deployment is aimed at strengthening protection against hostile unmanned aircraft.

Terra A2 is a fixed-wing interceptor designed for wide-area surveillance, detection and engagement of aerial targets. Its role is especially relevant as Ukraine faces repeated attacks by low-cost strike drones that threaten power facilities, logistics sites and civilian infrastructure.

What the system can do

The interceptor can reach speeds of up to three hundred twelve kilometers per hour, operate at distances of up to seventy five kilometers and remain in the air for more than forty minutes. It can be integrated with radar assets, creating a unified chain for detection, tracking and interception.

The company positions Terra A2 as part of a layered defense concept alongside Terra A1. Such a combination can help cover different ranges and mission profiles, making it harder for mass drone attacks to overload a single defensive layer.

Combat feedback matters

Ukrainian operators have already evaluated the system in real conditions. The emphasis is on simple control, quick operator training, reliability and the ability to work directly in the combat environment. For interceptor drones, these practical qualities can matter as much as headline speed or range.

Terra Drone plans to refine the platform based on battlefield experience and expand its use in Ukraine and other markets. For Ukraine, the key value is immediate: more tools for defending critical infrastructure from drones without spending scarce high-end missiles on every target.
