“The existing centralized drainage systems in many communities of Ukraine need to be upgraded because no one has been involved in this area for decades. There is also a problematic situation with sewage treatment plants, which in some places do not fully perform their functions. This leads to water pollution. Implementation of the state program Drinking Water of Ukraine for 2022-2026 will ensure sustainable development and reconstruction of centralized water supply and sewerage systems in the regions of Ukraine. Therefore, residents of different parts of our country will have quality drinking water in sufficient quantities," said minister Oleksii Chernyshov.
During the meeting, the head of the Ministry of regional development outlined the situation with the supply of freshwater to the population in Ukraine. Thus, in all of Ukraine, 99% of cities, 90% of urban settlements and 30% of rural settlements are provided with a centralized water supply. At the same time, only 69% of the population has access to centralized water supply systems and 48% — to centralized drainage systems. Scheduled water supply and use of imported water are carried out in 9 regions of Ukraine, which is almost 270 thousand people.
