At the beginning of the week, in the Netherlands began hearings on the claim of Ukraine about the intention to destroy the civilian population in the country by the Russian Federation. Kyiv says that the Kremlin does not follow the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, justifying its actions with the desire to end the war in the Luhansk and Donetsk regions.
The representative of Germany, Wiebke Ruckert, said that Ukraine was supported by many countries, considering that the Ukrainian claim had jurisdiction to consider the case.
Thus, 32 countries, including the Netherlands, Australia and Canada, believe that the UN International Court of Justice in The Hague should fully investigate the case, consider the evidence and experience of the past, and render a decision. These same countries are ready to support Ukraine and defend it in court.
Recall that the trial was already started earlier, but because of the Russian claim was stopped. Russia stated that the Ukrainian claim is deceitful. On September 18, 2023, the trial was resumed. Until September 27, hearings on the genocide of the Ukrainian people are held. After that, The Hague needs several months to deliver its judgement.
