The head of the Bundestag accepted the invitation of the Speaker of the Ukrainian parliament, Ruslan Stefanchuk, to come to Ukraine. The arrival of the second most important representative of the German government in Germany on the day of Remembrance and Reconciliation is a decisive political step, showing Berlin's support for Ukraine.
Enrico Brissa, head of protocol for the Bundestag, tweeted a photo of Bas on a Ukrainian train and commented: "Bundestag President Baerbel Bas begins her visit to Kyiv. Today 8 May, she will commemorate all victims of WW2 and the national socialist tyranny and hold political talks. #StandWithUkraine”.
On his first visit to Ukraine, Berbel Bas, together with Ruslan Stefanchuk, on behalf of Germany, will lay flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and at Babi Yar. After that, Bas will have a meeting with the president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
