The President of Latvia Arrived in Ukraine

On September 9, Egils Levits held a joint meeting and press conference with the president of Ukraine and the MP of Poland

President of Latvia Egils Levits honoured Ukraine with an unannounced visit. Today, the president held a closed meeting with the President of Ukraine and a joint conference in front of journalists.

Egils Levits said Latvia would make every effort to start the negotiation process on Ukraine's accession to the European Union as soon as possible. We remind you that the preliminary deadline for assessing the results of Ukraine as a candidate for membership is 2023. According to president Egils Levits, Ukraine is part of the European Union politically, culturally, and, most importantly, as a country full of freedom and democracy.

"Now, we are doing everything possible to go further along this path and ensure the start of negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU. We can help with our experience on how to achieve this goal. I am confident that we will be able to achieve it very soon, as the vast majority of the recommendations provided by the European Commission have already been implemented or will be implemented shortly. Therefore, our task is to move forward and start the negotiation process," Egils Levits.

President Levits emphasized the warmth of relations between our states: Latvia provides Ukraine with military and humanitarian assistance and also banned Russian tourists from entering its territory. Also, the state of Latvia takes part in restoring the Chernihiv region of Ukraine.

"I would like to note once again that Latvia is indeed Ukraine's advocate and promotes the interests of Ukraine throughout the world and in Europe. Together we can achieve a fundamental goal — the victory of Ukraine," Egils Levits.

We remind you that according to the prime minister and vice prime minister for the European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine, our state has fulfilled 70% of the conditions for joining the European Union.
