On this day, July 28, Ukraine traditionally celebrates the Day of the Baptism of the Kyivan Rus by Ukrainian prince Volodymyr the Great, the son of princess Olha. From this year on this day, Ukraine also celebrates Statehood Day. The president of Lithuania and friend of Ukraine, Gitanas Nausėda arrived in Kyiv to share the holiday with Ukrainians, express his support and speak before the Ukrainian parliament.
"Just arrived in Kyiv. On this special day, as Ukraine celebrates the Day of Statehood for the first time, will address the Ukrainian people at the Verkhovna Rada. Will also meet president Zelenskyy, present him with the Order of Vytautas the Great — the highest Lithuanian state decoration," Gitanas Nausėda.
This is Gitanas Nausėda's second visit to Kyiv since the beginning of the war: on April 13, the president came to Kyiv together with presidents Andrzej Duda, Egils Levits and Alar Karis. Also, on July 23, the first lady of Lithuania Diana Nausėda was in Kyiv.
The president of Lithuania, Egils Levits, also congratulated Ukrainians on Statehood Day and recalled the faithful support of his people to the people of Ukraine.
"On Ukrainian Statehood Day, we reaffirm Latvian belief and support for Ukrainian victory, freedom, independence and a strong future within Europe," Egils Levits on Twitter.
