The most likely successor of Angela Merkel as chancellor of Germany thanked Zelenskyy for his visit to the representation of the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia and added that the president of Ukraine is the first leader of a foreign state to congratulate Laschet on his election as the new chairman of the CDU.
In turn, Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked Armin Laschet for the warm welcome and emphasized that the main thing for him is friendly relations between Ukraine and Germany.
“It is important for Ukraine that the next federal government continues its policy of supporting Ukraine in the issue of restoring sovereignty and territorial integrity, contributing to the EU's unity regarding European integration and Ukraine’s NATO membership,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
Also, the head of Ukraine noted that 60% of Ukrainians support Ukraine's accession to the EU. Ukrainians have confirmed their adherence to European values at the Revolution of Dignity and are ready to further defend them.
At the meeting, the topic of developing trade and economic cooperation and creating conditions for strengthening partnerships between the countries was raised.
“Germany is one of the most important trade and investment partners of Ukraine,” said Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
In view of the continuation of the COVID-19 pandemic, the leaders of the states discussed the importance of supporting Ukraine from the EU, as well as providing Ukraine with vaccines to combat mass morbidity.
