The USA Announces New $250 Million Aid Package to Ukraine

US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has announced a new $250 million aid package for Ukraine, ahead of the 24th meeting of the Contact Group on Defense of Ukraine in the Ramstein format.

The aid package is expected to receive formal approval from US President Joe Biden on September 6, 2024.

Austin emphasized that this package is designed to address Ukraine's evolving defense needs, stating, "It will expand capabilities to meet Ukraine's ever-evolving needs. And we will deliver them at war speed."

Ramstein-24 Meeting in Germany

The 24th Ramstein meeting, held on September 6, will feature the participation of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. During his visit, Zelenskyy will meet with US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, and Chancellor Olaf Scholz. The discussions will focus on strengthening Ukraine's defense against Russian aggression, particularly the need to counter Russia’s ongoing air strikes.

Zelenskyy underscored the importance of delivering weapons from previously announced support packages and securing long-range solutions from international partners to help bring peace closer. Following the Ramstein meeting, Zelenskyy will attend the "Ambrosetti" international economic forum in Italy, where he will meet with Italian business leaders and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
