Britain confirms guarantees for nuclear fuel supplies to Ukraine

The support backs Urenco enriched uranium deliveries and wider nuclear energy cooperation after URC 2026

The United Kingdom has confirmed guarantees for a loan worth 210 million pounds sterling to support stable supplies of enriched uranium from Urenco to Ukrainian nuclear power plants over the next two years.

The confirmation followed meetings at the Ukraine Recovery Conference 2026 in Gdansk involving Ukraine’s energy leadership, UK Export Finance and Urenco. Energoatom and Urenco signed the relevant agreement on the sidelines of the conference, with the guarantee provided through the British export credit agency.

Fuel security and modernization

The arrangement is part of a broader energy security agenda. At URC 2026, Energoatom also signed a memorandum with the Czech company ŠKODA JS on strategic cooperation in nuclear energy, including plant construction, operation and maintenance, modernization, safety upgrades, scientific cooperation and spent fuel management.

For Ukraine, reliable nuclear fuel supply is not only an energy issue. It supports grid stability, reduces external vulnerability and keeps long-term modernization projects moving.

The deal also shows how export finance and industrial partnerships are becoming part of Ukraine’s wartime energy resilience.
