Ukraine plans to complete negotiations with China on opening market access for several agri-food categories by the end of 2026. The agenda includes poultry products, pet food and other goods that require formal protocols and strict food safety procedures.
The State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection says part of the work has already moved through domestic procedures. The next step is to align product protocols and confirm the requirements for approved producers, storage sites and processing facilities.
Traceability is the real entry ticket
China is one of the worlds largest food importers, but the market is also demanding. Exporters need to prove origin, production conditions, safety controls and the path of goods from farm or facility to shipment.
For Ukrainian producers, registration and compliance may become as important as price. Companies that prepare documentation, quality systems and cold-chain discipline early will have a stronger chance once approvals are finalized.
The opportunity is significant: new Chinese approvals can widen export geography and reduce dependence on a limited number of markets.
The practical work, however, is technical: protocols, audits, traceability and stable product quality.
