Ukraine pushes food export access in India, Indonesia and Thailand

Veterinary and sanitary procedures remain the practical gate to new Asian markets

Ukraine is trying to widen the geography of agricultural exports through direct negotiations with India, Indonesia and Thailand. The talks focused not on political declarations, but on the practical documents that decide whether Ukrainian dairy, poultry, fish and egg products can enter new markets.

During a working visit to Geneva, the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection discussed certification, accreditation and sanitary procedures with competent authorities from the three countries. For exporters, these steps are often the decisive barrier between commercial interest and real shipments.

Certificates, accreditation and market access

With India, Ukraine discussed milk and dairy products, egg products, poultry meat, pork and related goods. Some procedures were launched several years ago but remain unfinished, so the sides agreed to clarify delays and define further steps.

With Indonesia, the focus was on accreditation of Ukrainian dairy enterprises and recognition of Ukrainian halal certification. Without this recognition, access for poultry, beef, eggs, fish products and pet food cannot move forward. Thailand, meanwhile, requires renewed work on documents for eggs, fish products, proteins, fats and animal-origin flour.

For Ukrainian producers, the result of such talks is measured in certificates, inspections and approved lists of companies. That is the technical route to export growth.

The Asian direction can become more important for Ukrainian agribusiness if regulatory procedures finally turn into open market channels.
