The European Union is based on the principles of democracy. Ukraine is now confronting the Russian Federation, defending precisely democratic values. Therefore, it was important for the Ukrainian people and political forces to see the reaction of the European community.
Today, the European Commission has provided Ukraine with the answer that every Ukrainian has been waiting for. The country was granted the status of the candidate with 7 recommendations for membership in an economic-political association. These conditions will be completed by early 2023.
The status of the candidate is a political signal for Ukraine. This means that the previous reforms and struggle for freedom are now visible. The candidate country Ukraine should become a member of the European Union. Granting this status does not mean that it will happen in the coming months or a year. But Kyiv has already acquired a political springboard. The candidate continues to make changes in all areas related to further integration. This European decision also entails:
- Investment in the candidate country;
- Granting financial privileges like union members;
- Implementation of EU legislation, etc.
It should be recalled that before the announcement of the results of the European Commission, the European Parliament accepted the recommendation to grant Ukraine the candidate status, and Ursula von der Leyen noted that Kyiv has carried out all the necessary reforms to continue the way.
