Ukraine Joined the IAEA Board of Governors

Zelenskyy: specialists from Ukraine during 2023-25 will have a voice in resolving nuclear security issues

On 28 September, the president of Ukraine reported that members of the IAEA had considered and approved Kyiv's application to the organisation's board of governors. Ukraine will now have an even more significant role in international security. Before that, Ukrainian nuclear energy was an essential link in the international partnership. Council membership gives the country the right to vote, to make decisions, and to strengthen international security.

Zelenskyy also said that the admission of Ukraine to the board would give more prospects for resolving the problems made by the Russian occupation. First of all, we are talking about Zaporizhzhia NPP, seized by Russian terrorists but not by the IAEA personnel.

"We will do everything to implement the first point of our Peace formula – nuclear and radiation safety. And to guarantee the complete liberation of our Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant from Russian occupiers and salvation of Ukraine and all Europe from Russian radiation blackmail," Zelenskyy said openly.
