Ukraine missile program gains new partner focus

Defense cooperation is shifting toward missiles, drones and production projects with European allies

Ukraine is pushing its missile and air defense agenda into a more industrial phase. New Ukrainian drones, cruise missile concepts and partner-funded air defense packages are becoming part of the same strategic picture: the country needs not only weapons deliveries, but also production capacity that can survive a long war.

At the Eurosatory-2026 defense exhibition in Paris, Ukrainian products attracted attention alongside discussions about broader European missile defense. Reconnaissance drones such as Kazhan and Shmavik have already been tested by war conditions, while a jet-powered Ukrainian cruise missile with a range of 150 kilometers shows how local engineering is moving beyond small UAVs.

Partners move from aid to production

The Ramstein format has also focused on financing air defense missiles. Nine countries are expected to support Patriot missile purchases for more than one billion dollars, while Germany is seeking a larger role in missile supply and has already accelerated deliveries of Iris-T systems.

The United Kingdom is preparing to provide 150 thousand Ukrainian-produced UAVs along with more than 350 missiles and radar systems. Separate cooperation with Germany covers anti-ballistic missiles and ground robotic systems, including production of Thermit robots in Germany.

The direction is clear: Ukraine wants partner support to become less episodic and more industrial. That means licenses, joint production, supply chains and systems that can integrate with European defense planning. For investors and manufacturers, the defense sector is becoming one of the most active areas of technology cooperation around Ukraine.
