Ukraine Secures $3.9 Billion Grant from the United States for Budget Support

U.S. grant funds to support Ukraine’s budget amidst ongoing conflict

The Ukrainian government has received a substantial grant of $3.9 billion from the United States, aimed at supporting the State Budget during Ukraine's ongoing resistance against Russian aggression. This non-refundable financial assistance will be crucial in covering priority expenditures without adding to the nation's debt burden.

The funds will be directed towards:

  • Salaries: Ensuring timely payment for teachers, emergency response personnel, and state employees.
  • Social Expenditures: Providing aid to internally displaced persons, low-income families, and individuals with disabilities.

Since February 2022, the United States has provided nearly $27 billion in direct budget support to Ukraine, making it the largest financial aid contributor among all countries. This year's budget support from the U.S. is expected to total $7.8 billion.

The grant was channeled through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and transferred to Ukraine's State Budget via the World Bank's "PEACE in Ukraine" project, which focuses on sustaining public administration amid the ongoing crisis.
