At the meeting of the cabinet of ministers, it was discussed that the transformation concept will become the basis for expanding the industrial profiles of the coal regions of Ukraine, opening up multi-profile opportunities for citizens and improving the quality of life.
“Next year, with the help of the state budget and with the support of international partners, we are starting the implementation of the first pilot transformation projects. Long-term projects will reduce the dependence of local economies on coal mining,” Denys Shmyhal, prime minister of Ukraine.
There are 25 coal regions on the territory of Ukraine with a population of more than 850 thousand people. The concept of regional transformation will create new markets and create a space with the right to choose further professional activities.
According to the explanatory note to the draft concept, the total capital of the program is about $589 million, $135 million of which comes from the state budget.
