Ukraine's gas storage operator is starting to re-equip five gas turbine engines for the Bilche-Volytsko-Uherskoye UGS facility. Realization of the project costing more than 3 million USD will last till the end of the current year. The press service of Ukrtransgas reports about it.
According to the report, the modernization will reduce fuel gas consumption during UGS operation by 20% and improve the economics and efficiency of Europe's largest gas storage facility. The capacity of the new engines is similar to the existing ones and amounts to 6.3 MW. But unlike the existing gas storage equipment, the efficiency of the new gas turbine engines is higher.
"As a result, the new engines will enhance the reliability and operability of the ground energy-mechanical equipment of the UGS, while increasing the efficiency of the booster compressor station both during injection and during gas withdrawal from the UGS," the report says.
The upgraded booster compressor station will ensure long-term operation of the Uherskoye reservoir XVI horizon. And it is extremely important for the overall efficiency of all UGS facilities in the country, in particular in gas withdrawal mode, the company's press service added.
At the end of April 2021, Ukraine began pumping gas into underground storage facilities. The 2020-2021 withdrawal season turned out to be one of the longest.
