Ukraine added seventy new wind turbines to its energy system in the first half of 2026

The sector is recovering fast, with more than ten gigawatts of projects already in developers’ pipelines

Ukraine commissioned seventy new wind turbines in the first half of 2026, adding 414.8 megawatts of capacity to the power system. The figures point to an active recovery of the domestic wind-energy sector despite the pressure on infrastructure and investment planning.

The Ukrainian Wind Energy Association says the current pace of construction confirms that developers are returning to long-term projects. According to a survey of market participants, the portfolio of new wind projects planned for 2027-2033 already exceeds ten gigawatts.

Where growth is expected

Future wind farms are expected across almost all regions of Ukraine. The strongest capacity additions are projected for 2028 and 2029, while 2027 may already bring more than 1.4 gigawatts of new wind capacity to the grid.

This matters because Ukraine needs generation that can diversify the energy mix and reduce pressure on vulnerable centralized assets. Wind projects also create demand for construction, grid equipment, service companies, logistics and local engineering.

Storage and hybrid projects

A new trend is the integration of energy storage systems directly at wind-farm sites. Developers are also preparing hybrid projects that combine wind, solar and batteries. Such assets can make renewable generation more flexible and easier to integrate into the grid.

For investors, the sector’s pipeline is a signal that renewable energy remains a strategic market in Ukraine. The challenge is not demand, but grid connection, security, financing terms and the ability to protect assets while building at scale.
