Ukraine’s Historic Heating Season Powered by Domestic Gas

For the first time, Ukraine has successfully navigated the heating season relying solely on its domestically produced natural gas, marking a significant milestone in the country’s energy sector

Oleksiy Chernyshov, the head of Naftogaz Ukraine, heralded this achievement as a historic event, highlighting the departure from the longstanding dependence on imported gas. This breakthrough reflects the remarkable progress made by Ukrainian gas industry professionals, emphasizing a sustained commitment to bolstering Ukraine's energy independence. In 2023, Ukraine achieved a record extraction of over 1 billion cubic meters of natural gas, with the commissioning of one of the country's most productive wells, yielding a daily output of 580,000 cubic meters. By February 8, 2024, daily gas production reached 38.54 million cubic meters, a feat made possible by the introduction of new high-performance wells.
