"SMG Kherson shipyard has qualitatively and in time modernized a series of vessels of Koster type ordered by a Dutch company. Koster is a vessel with a restriction on distance from the shore voyage area. It comes from the English word "coast". In the course of modernization, each vessel's length was increased by 12 meters. It means an installation of an insert and an inter-hull bulkhead which considerably improved technical and economic characteristics of the vessels - they became double-deckers (before the project they had one hold) and deadweight is increased in average by 20%", — the press service pointed out.
In the course of the performance of the contract SMG specialists used for the manufacture of constructions about 900 tons of Ukrainian-made metal.
Besides, the company's workers painted ballast tanks, outer plating and cargo holds and used more than 36 tons of paint. And the total area of the treated metal surfaces amounted to more than 10 hectares. Moreover :
- new piping systems with a total length of more than 2 km were laid
- new manhole covers were installed;
- 6 retractable free-dropping davits and 6 complete sets of hold fire-fighting system CO2.
The total cost of the contract signed at the end of 2020 for the modernization of six fireboats was about $4 mln. Kosters built-in 2010 are intended for coastal transportation of general cargoes. The vessels are built in accordance with the typical project: maximum length - 87 meters, width - 11,42 meters, deadweight - 2620 tons.
