Strategic Meeting at the Ministry of Energy
At the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, representatives of leading Ukrainian energy companies met with Cactos, a Finnish company specializing in energy storage systems (ESS).
Participants included:
-
NPC Ukrenergo
-
PrJSC Ukrhydroenergo
-
JSC Market Operator
-
JSC Ukrainian Distribution Networks
The discussions centered on technical, financial, and legislative opportunities for the implementation of joint projects with Cactos.
Why Cactos Matters for Ukraine
Cactos is recognized as a leader in integrated services for the development, installation, and maintenance of battery storage solutions. For Ukraine, cooperation with such a partner could accelerate the modernization of the grid, improve stability, and support the integration of renewable energy sources.
Battery storage systems are critical for:
-
Balancing supply and demand in a wartime energy market.
-
Stabilizing frequency and grid operation during peak loads.
-
Supporting renewables, including solar and wind.
-
Enhancing energy independence and resilience.
Ukraine’s Energy Storage Demand
According to NPC Ukrenergo, the Ukrainian power system will require 1.5 GW of storage capacity over the next 10 years.
This need is driven by:
-
High volatility in consumption and generation during wartime.
-
Rapid growth of renewable projects.
-
European integration and synchronization with ENTSO-E standards.
In line with this, JSC Market Operator has already started testing a new platform (October 7), designed to assess the economic feasibility of storage facilities in different market segments.
Outlook: Finnish–Ukrainian Energy Partnership
The Ministry of Energy emphasized that cooperation with European technology leaders like Cactos supports Ukraine’s energy transition and resilience strategy.
Such partnerships will:
-
Unlock new investment opportunities.
-
Enable joint pilot projects in grid storage.
-
Strengthen Ukraine’s role in the regional energy market.
