Duolingo published an annual report on the service. It is based on statistics and analysis of more than 500 million students on the site. According to the received data, the site declared the Ukrainian language of the year. 1.3 million users began to learn the state language of the country attacked by Russia. It is noted that students have chosen the Ukrainian language since March 2022. At the same time, for 9 months, interest in the language has never fallen below the peaks set in early spring.
Among the students who began to learn a new language are both neighbours of Ukraine and remote countries. The most remote countries were Vietnam, Argentina, and Japan. Polish students became the closest country to Ukraine, which also set a record. The most significant number of students was recorded from Poland. Britain was gradually able to approach Poland. Thus, at the end of the year, the top 5 countries in which interest in the Ukrainian language increased were:
- Ireland (interest increased by 2.229 %);
- England (1.651%);
- Poland (1.625 %);
- Netherlands (1.590%);
- Czech Republic (1.513%).
Thus, Ukraine left 36 places, which took place last year, and took 15 out of 40 possible in 2022.
Also, everyone may learn the Ukrainian language and culture through Ukrainian websites adapted for international students.
Another popularizer of Ukraine is the historian and ambassador of the United24 Tim Snyder.
