Textron Systems has started assembling Mobile Strike Force Vehicles for Ukraine at its facility in Louisiana. The production restart is part of a United States security assistance contract that will supply the Ukrainian defence forces with armored vehicles and a package of spare parts.
The MSFV is a heavily modified version of the four-wheel M1117 Guardian armored vehicle. The platform was originally developed for Afghan security forces, but its production line is now being revived for Ukraine.
What the vehicle adds
The MSFV is designed for protected mobility, patrol tasks and transport of small units. Compared with the base M1117, it has a longer hull, stronger mine protection and improved mobility systems, including full drive and tire inflation support for difficult terrain.
For Ukraine, such vehicles are useful because the battlefield demands mobility with protection against mines, fragments and drone-related threats. Ukrainian crews have already adapted earlier M1117 vehicles with additional armor and protective cages, showing how Western platforms are modified for current conditions.
The value of the new production run will depend on delivery timing, spare parts availability and integration with Ukrainian maintenance routines. If the line remains stable, it will add another source of protected wheeled vehicles for frontline and rear-area tasks.
