Until the end of 2021, 43.79 million Ukrainians lived in Ukraine. A couple of months later, Russia attacked Ukraine on a full scale, and 6.5 million Ukrainians had to leave their former lives and flee abroad. In most cases, these are women who saved their children. Often men sent their wives and children, and they themselves went to war.
Another 5 million Ukrainians left their region and moved to safer regions. As of early July 2022, 139.000 Ukrainians were evacuated from the burning territories of Donetsk, Kharkiv and Kherson regions.
Thousands more Ukrainians have been killed, thousands more have been deported, and nearly a million more children have been kidnapped to Russia and Belarus.
