On June 20, in an interview for a Ukrainian TV channel, Olha Stefanishyna, deputy prime minister for European and Euro-Atlantic integration of Ukraine, said that all EU countries agreed on granting Ukraine the status of an EU member. It is worth noting that 3 countries that opposed the candidacy of our country, due to the adoption by Ukraine of the necessary laws/conventions/amendments, changed their minds.
"Each of these countries, after the decision of the European Commission on Friday, confirmed that it supports the granting of candidate status to Ukraine, without waiting directly for the meeting on June 24," Stefanyshina said.
We remind you that the European Parliament and the European Commission officially recommended Ukraine as a candidate for EU membership, but the final decision will be announced on June 23-24. By this time, the states have the right to submit their proposals/conditions for the entry of Ukraine (and Moldova).
"We have dispelled all doubts of skeptics that we are a democratic country with effective governance and are worthy to receive this decision," Olha Stefanishina.
The ratification of the Istanbul Convention and the law On waste recycling, as well as the adoption of an anticorruption strategy, were one of the key actions of Ukraine that contributed to the favorable decision of the EU member states.
"There was a discussion about the status of a candidate for Ukraine. Now it is difficult to assume that this status will not be granted to Ukraine. There was agreement. It seems that this issue is a foregone conclusion," Polish minister of foreign affairs Zbigniew Rau at a summit of EU foreign ministers in Luxembourg.
