A meeting of 2 historical figures took place in Kyiv: president of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and American businessman Howard Buffett. This is Buffett's 2-nd visit to Ukraine: the first was in June. During the previous visit, the parties discussed the issue of restoring the damaged infrastructure of Ukraine. This time, the topic was deepened because the energy system of Ukraine, especially in Kyiv, Chernihiv, Kharkiv and Dnipro regions, is critically damaged, and on the eve of winter, Ukrainians found themselves in an extremely risky situation.
The president emphasized the importance of linking Ukraine's defence system because it is with drones and missiles that Russia destroys Ukraine's critical and civilian infrastructure.
"The American businessman confirmed his readiness to act as a donor for purchasing electrical equipment and generators to provide energy to critical facilities: pumping stations, hospitals and mobile heating points — to overcome the energy crisis," reports Zelenskyy's portal.
The parties discussed Buffett's participation in private Ukrainian projects aimed at rebuilding Ukraine, as well as the state Fund for the Reconstruction of Ukraine.
"For significant merits in strengthening interstate cooperation, supporting the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and a significant contribution to the popularization of the Ukrainian state in the world" Zelenskyy awarded Howard Buffett with the Order of Yaroslav the Wise of the V degree. Ursula von der Leyen and Jake Sullivan previously received this distinction.
