Okhmadet сhildren's hospital in Kyiv has received a license to perform bone marrow transplantation for adults. As soon as this became possible, a family came to Kyiv from Kharkiv. A 5-year-old boy became a stem cell donor for his father. The operation, which was carried out by Okhmadet's surgeons, was a success.
After that, 6 more such operations were carried out. Another 10 bone marrow transplants are scheduled for September this year, 2 of which took place on September 1. All transplantations are paid from the budget of Ukraine.
Last year, new laws and registries on transplantation came into force, allowing this area's development in Ukraine. In the same year, 2021, the first heart and kidney transplants were performed.
