Ecological and Nuclear Disaster

UN secretary-general Antonio Guterres called for the introduction of international specialists to the Zaporizhzhia NPP in Ukraine

These weeks are the most dangerous for the world in recent times. The planet is in danger of nuclear catastrophe because of the actions of the Russian invaders. The Russian army opened fire several times in the area of the Zaporizhzhya NPP. The British intelligence confirms that the dangerous actions were carried out by the Russian army and probably damaged the safety of the plant's normal operation. Even today the Russians say directly that they will blow up the nuclear power plant. As a result, Guterres stated that the International Atomic Energy Agency needed access to the plant. At the moment, the parties drawn out in the war did not respond to the request of the UN secretary-general.

Other environmental crimes complemented the Russian Federation's nuclear terrorism. Recently, the Crimean Tatar resource centre published the results of an environmental study entitled Ecological and climatic discrimination in occupied Crimea. In the framework of the study, experts found that the Russian authorities make decisions that lead to climate change, including climate comfort and the emergence of natural phenomena that affect the population of Crimea. Both local management decisions and large-scale military operations disrupt the ecosystem: rocket launches, sea mines, and a large number of warships in the Black sea.

The Ministry of environmental protection and natural resources of Ukraine has also recorded more than 2.000 cases of environmental damage since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The minister of environment and natural resources protection Ruslan Strelets gave an estimated amount of damage. According to a report for almost 6 months of the war, Ukraine's nature suffered $2 billion.
