As the new British prime minister, Rishi Sunak's first phone call was with a resident of Ukraine. Remarkably, Liz Truss also chose Zelenskyy as her first diplomatic contact as PM.
"United Kingdom's support for Ukraine would be as strong as ever under his premiership, and president Zelenskyy could count on his government to stand in continued solidarity," the state portal of the UK reports the details of the conversation between Rishi Sunak and Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The minister stressed the importance of the further work of the IAEA in Ukraine to ensure the nuclear security of Europe, as well as the creation of conditions for the detection of disinformation from the occupiers who have settled at the nuclear power plants of Ukraine.
The leaders agreed to continue pressure on the terrorist Putin's regime with the help of international sanctions.
For his part, Zelenskyy congratulated Sunak on the position of the UK and, on behalf of the Ukrainian people, wished the minister a happy Diwali holiday.
"In a conversation with Rishi Sunak, we agreed to write a new chapter in the Ukraine-UK relations, but the story is the same — full support in the face of Russian aggression. I appreciate PM's first call to Ukraine. And always grateful for the support of the British people," Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in his daily address to Ukrainians.
Rishi Sunak expressed hope for a quick personal meeting.
