Half a Year Fighting One of the World’s Biggest Aggressors

186 days Ukraine confronts the Russian Federation. Who Leads the War

Over the past 7 days, many events have occurred in the Russian-Ukrainian war. On August 24, sounded a terrible bell — the war period — 6 months since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. During this time, the Russian Federation was able to completely capture the Luhansk region, part of which, since 2014 was already under the control of the occupiers, it is unlikely to advance in the Kharkiv and Donetsk direction. The biggest victory in the Donetsk region, the occupiers may consider the capture of Mariupol, in which they killed more than 22.000 civilians and from which now hundreds of Ukrainian soldiers have been taken and illegally subjected to trial with humiliation and execution. The occupiers also captured the Kherson region.

At the same time, Ukraine is conducting a counter-offensive. From March to August, the Ukrainian military regained the territory, which is equal to Denmark. This is reported by the Institute of War Studies. The armed forces of Ukraine are also victorious in the Kherson direction. From 27 to 28 August, defenders of independence attacked 2 warehouses of the invaders. The Ukrainian army also destroyed 3 more warehouses with military weapons of Russian soldiers: 2 warehouses in the Zaporizhzhia region and 1 — in the Donetsk region.

The Russian army also felt losses in the annexed Crimea. Their warehouses with combat supplies began to explode. Business Insider reported that in 180-186 days of the war, the occupiers began withdrawing fighters from the peninsula, fearing new explosions. The leader of the Crimean Tatars, Mustafa Cemilev, who supports Ukraine, said that the occupation authorities had begun to remove their families from Crimea.

The Ministry of defence of Ukraine reported that in addition to the loss of territory and equipment, the Russian invaders had lost 46.750 personnel by the 186 days of the war. It is also reported that the Russian Federation spent on strikes on Ukrainian territories about 55% of its reserves on. Perhaps that is why Russia manipulated Turkey and took its weapons from Syria.

Despite Ukraine's obvious deterrent and offensive force, tragic events have not ceased. On 24 August, the sixth month since the beginning of the war, Ukraine also honoured the independence of its country. However, in 2022 this day remembered the country that was the most alarming — all regions of Ukraine sounded alarms from 6 to 12 times. Some Ukrainians spent the holiday being more than 10 hours in shelters. People died from the missile strikes.
