On September 10, it became known about the liberation of the city of Izium in the Kharkiv region. On September 15, a mass grave with 400 graves was found in Izium. Ukrainian civilians killed by Russians are buried in the ground: tortured, shot.
"I can say that here is one of the largest burials in one liberated city, in which there are more than 440 graves," police investigator of the Kharkiv region Serhii Bolvinov.
According to Bolvinov, the bodies of Ukrainians were simply buried in the middle of the forest, in a specially selected area for this purpose. I ask you to imagine how the Russians came to the Ukrainian forest and decided that now it would be a cemetery for the Ukrainians they killed.
"We know that some were killed (shot), some died from artillery fire, the so-called mine-explosive injuries. Some died from air strikes. Many bodies have not yet been identified, so the causes of death will be established during investigative actions," Serhii Bolvinov.
There is a forensic medical service on site. The bodies of the victims of the Russian war will be exhumed and sent for examination. According to Bolvinov, his department is aware of other mass graves in the Kharkiv region. However, the exhumation has not yet begun there.
According to Oleh Kotenko, the commissioner for missing persons, the Russians arranged mass graves directly within the city of Izium.
"Those crosses that stand on these graves, it was done hastily... And these graves — there are only numbers. Somewhere there are surnames, somewhere they are not, but most are numbers," Oleg Kotenko.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy reacted to this tragedy. Mass graves again: same as in Bucha, Mariupol.
"Mass graves of people were found in Izium in the Kharkiv region. The necessary legal proceedings have already begun there. More information, clear, verified, should be tomorrow. Tomorrow there will be Ukrainian and international journalists in Izium. We want the world to know what is really happening and what the Russian occupation has led to. Bucha, Mariupol, now, unfortunately, Iiyum... Russia leaves death everywhere. And she must be held accountable for it. The world must bring Russia to real responsibility for this war. We will do everything for this. Eternal memory to all whose lives were taken by the invaders! Eternal glory to everyone who fights for Ukraine!" Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
As soon as Izium was deoccupied, it immediately became known that the Russians had killed more than 1.000 civilians in the city.
