9 years ago, on February 18, 2014, the fight against the Russian path of Yanukovych began. Ukrainians did not agree that Moscovia swallowed Ukraine. Again. And hundreds of Ukrainians took to the main square of Kyiv, Independence square, to fight for their future in European Ukraine. We know this event and period as Euromaidan.
The British ambassador to Ukraine Melinda Simmons today laid flowers to those who fought on the Maidan.
"Paid my respects to Heavenly Hundred, peaceful protesters killed by the kleptocratic pro-Russian regime 9 years ago. But nothing can kill their vision of a free, independent, and prosperous European Ukraine. The UK will #StandWithUkraine for as long as it takes to implement it fully," Melinda Simmons.
During the Euromaidan, 23 people were killed and 509 injured. We call them Heavenly Hundred.
