Poland plans paid motorway from border to Lviv

The project could become one of the first joint infrastructure steps in Ukraine’s reconstruction logistics

Poland plans to build a paid motorway in Ukraine that would connect the Polish-Ukrainian border with Lviv. The project would replace the current M10 road between the Korczowa-Krakovets checkpoint and Lviv with a faster route designed for both passenger and freight traffic.

The agreement between Poland and Ukraine could be signed at the end of June during the Ukraine Recovery conference in Gdansk. The motorway is expected to be the first in a broader list of joint infrastructure projects connected with postwar reconstruction.

Logistics as reconstruction policy

The project is not only about a road. It is part of a wider Polish view of Ukraine’s reconstruction as a logistics and market access opportunity. Other possible projects mentioned in the same context include a railway with European gauge and a Polish port on the Black Sea.

Financing would be provided by the Polish government. After construction, tolls would be charged from cars and trucks, and the proceeds would go to Poland’s state budget as a repayment mechanism for the credit provided to Ukraine.

For Ukraine, the route could improve access between Lviv, the border and European logistics networks. Western Ukraine has become one of the key gateways for humanitarian cargo, industrial supplies, exports and relocation flows, so better road capacity has a direct economic meaning.

For Poland, the project can strengthen its role as a hub for trade with Ukraine and further markets to the east and the Middle East. Polish officials describe the goal not only as helping Ukraine, but also as opening routes for business and logistics.

The practical value will depend on financing terms, construction speed, toll policy and integration with border procedures. If implemented well, the motorway could become a visible example of reconstruction infrastructure that serves both countries.
