This is a real story, which simultaneously leads to sadness and inspires. A 4-year-old boy from Rivne died. Doctors diagnosed brain death. But his parents didn't curse the whole world and agreed to donate their son's organs for transplantation. This step helped to save the lives of 3 other children.
Ukrainian specialists from the national children's specialised hospital of the Ministry of health of Ukraine Ohmatdyt and the Heart institute performed 3 serious operations. The boy's heart was transplanted to a 6-year-old girl, the liver to a 15-year-old boy, and kidneys saved the life of a 12-year-old boy who lived in the hospital for the last 3 years.
In Ukraine, posthumous organ donation and transplantation has a legal status and is subject to laws. Donations can only be voluntary. One donor can save up to 8 lives.
