All Ukraine knows about the 75-year-old volunteer from Japan. Fuminori Tsuchiko, at the beginning of a full-scale invasion of Russia in Ukraine, was in the Kharkiv metro: he sold his house in Japan, moved to Kharkiv and helped struggling Ukrainians in the underground. After the life of the residents of Kharkiv ceased to exist only underground, the volunteer opened a cafe, where he fed the needy for free.
On August 23, 2023, the president of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the first lady of Ukraine, Olena Zelenska, were awarded the volunteer for his work. Fuminori Tsuchiko received the head of state award – National Legend of Ukraine. This award is received by citizens who influence the development of various spheres of the country (economy, science, education, culture, sports, etc.), or for active charitable activities. Therefore, Zelenskyy noted that the Japanese volunteer not only helped the Ukrainian people in a difficult time but also helped Ukraine to strengthen.
