On February 21, Giorgia Meloni arrived in Kyiv. During a joint press conference with Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the prime minister of Italy made several important announcements.
First, Ukraine can count on Italy's support in protecting our sky and land: Italy will transfer air defence systems and equipment and specialists for demining to Ukraine. This is already 6th packages of military aid to Ukraine.
"We worked a lot with France to quickly combine our technologies. The SAMP-T air defence system is essential, but the new aid package also includes other air defence systems — Skyguard and Spike. Today, the strategic goal is to protect critical infrastructure,” Giorgia Meloni.
In addition, Ukraine will receive generators to supply energy to the public sector: schools, hospitals, and points of invincibility.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked prime minister Meloni for the reliable support that Ukraine receives from Italy throughout the Russian war.
"Today, with the prime minister of Italy Giorgia Meloni, we discussed cooperation in the defence and security sector, as well as new sanctions against Russia. We discussed how Italy could contribute to the implementation of the peace initiative. We separately touched upon Italy's participation in the reconstruction of Ukraine," Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
