Ukraine Knows How to Break the Link Between Crimea and Russia

Adviser to the head of the office of the president of Ukraine, Mykhailo Podoliak, told about the fate of the Crimean bridge

The Guardian interviewed Mykhailo Podoliak. The presidential adviser answered questions about the military situation in the country and territories with special status: the Crimean peninsula, part of the Luhansk and Donetsk Republic.

The politician, during the interview, did not confirm the strikes from the Ukrainian side on the Crimean territory. But Podoliak, in a jocular form, said that such cases of destruction of ammunition depots and military aircraft might be more. He also added that Ukraine is conducting a counter-offensive to create "chaos within the Russian forces".

However, Mykhailo Podoliak announced one of the strikes in the autonomous republic of Crimea, which Russia has occupied since 2014. The politician believes that the Crimean bridge, which connects the peninsula with Russia, was built illegally and is an essential object in the war.

"This is the main gate for supplying the Russian army in Crimea. Such facilities should be destroyed," he said.

The Ukrainian added that the counteroffensive of the armed forces looks different from that of Russia. Ukrainian defenders do not use the tactics of the 60s and 70s of the last century — they do not come from all sides. According to The Guardian, the Ukrainian military is attacking Russia's supply routes to the occupied territories, destroying logistics, ammunition depots, and other military infrastructure.

At the same time, British intelligence reported that last week in Crimea:

  • Ammunition depot destroyed, railway damaged by explosion;
  • Beat the most important military airport in Crimea.
