UNESCO Office to Open in Kyiv in 2022

The task of the office will be to monitor war-damaged cultural heritage and immediately provide assistance to cultural monuments.

Minister of culture Oleksandr Tkachenko said that a UNESCO office will open in Kyiv by the end of this year. This is a significant event because, as of today, more than 400 cultural monuments of Ukraine have been destroyed or damaged, including Polovtsian women's statues, which are more than 1.000 years old.

According to Tkachenko, the staff of the UNESCO office will monitor the safety of cultural monuments located in the territory of Ukraine and provide immediate support from the central office.

Now there are 7 UNESCO monuments on the territory of Ukraine, and 8 will soon be added — the historical centre of Odesa. Also, a UNESCO cultural centre will be opened in Odesa.

We remind you that Russia may be excluded from UNESCO.
