This is the 2nd visit of Ursula von der Leyen to Kyiv. During the first visit, von der Leyen and Joseph Borrell visited the mass grave in Bucha and handed over a questionnaire for obtaining candidate status. And now, the head of the European Commission has come to personally congratulate Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the EU recommendation to grant Ukraine candidate member status and discuss further work in a new round of Ukraine's development.
"Good to be back in Kyiv. With president Zelenskyy, I will take stock of the joint work needed for reconstruction and of the progress made by Ukraine on its European path. Europe is with you!" said the head of the European Commission on Twitter.
Ursula von der Leyen that Ukraine's accession to the EU corresponds to the strategic interests of the European Union, and granting Ukraine the status of an EU member is "our moral duty" of the European Union. We also remind you that the head of the European Commission said that the EU will rebuild post-war Mariupol.
