Kyiv Honored the Merits of the Founder of “World Central Kitchen” Before Ukraine

Jose Andres feeding Ukrainian refugees for 9 months and giving them work

On November 21, Jose Andres, the founder of World Central Kitchen, arrived in Kyiv. From the very beginning of the war, Jose was in a Polish town bordering Ukraine and fed Ukrainians who were fleeing the war. Also, its food preparation facility is located in Lviv. In addition, World Central Kitchen prepares charity portioned lunches and sends them by train across Ukraine to feed everyone thirsty. Every day, WCK prepares more than 200,000 portions of food per day.

For this incredible gratuitous help, Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked on behalf of every Ukrainian and invited Jose Andres to the opening of his nameplate on the Avenue of Courage.

"Jose Andres was with Ukraine from the first days of the full-scale invasion. And still continues to help Ukrainians. Thank you for everything you do. Now it will be in the history of our country, our independence. We will never forget this" Zelenskyy.

It is known that chief Andres visited Ukraine several times during the Russian war and personally coordinated humanitarian projects to help Ukrainians. He also arrived immediately after the liberation of Kherson. For this, the president thanked Andres with the Orden of Merit II degree.

"Thank you very much for your support. We feel that you have been with us since the very beginning of this tragedy — the full-scale invasion of the Russian aggressor. Thank you very much for being with the Ukrainians."

On the first day after the return of Kherson, World Central Kitchen handed over 3.500 food kits to the citizens. In total, more than 19.000 such sets were distributed from November 11 (the date of the deoccupation of Kherson). Throughout the city, there are points of preparation and daily delivery of lunches to people whose homes have been destroyed, and they are forced to cook food on open fires.

Director Cary Fukunaga and actor Liev Schreiber work together with WCK for charity.
