The prime minister of Montenegro Dritan Abazovic arrived in Kyiv for the second time to show Montenegro's support for our country. On December 5, Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Dritan Abazovich signed a joint declaration guaranteeing Montenegro's support on Ukraine's path to NATO.
"Important negotiations with the prime minister of Montenegro Dritan Abazovic. Today, we signed the joint declaration, which defines the priority areas of cooperation between Ukraine and Montenegro within the strategic course of our country to acquire full membership in NATO," Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
"Ukraine is defending a civilization that has decided to live in freedom and democracy. We hope for peace and believe that it will come. Until peace comes, count on the support and assistance of Montenegro in all aspects. Our will is great," Dritan Abazovich.
The inhabitants of Montenegro are divided in their opinion regarding Ukraine: some sympathize with Russia, and some support Ukraine. However, the state's government has been helping Ukraine since the beginning of the war. As of today, about 7.150 Ukrainians who fled the war live in Montenegro. In addition, Montenegro eased the conditions for crossing its border for Ukrainians, so from February, about 80.000 Ukrainians passed through the state.
On July 30, Montenegro officially condemned Russian aggression against Ukraine; on September 30, the state officially supported Ukraine's application to join NATO.
We remind you that on November 25, Montenegro defence interim Filip Adzic arrived in Kyiv and confirmed his country's support for Ukraine's path to NATO and the European Union.
