The government has launched a pilot project to forecast demand for specialists and skilled workers for the next 10 years. The goal is to align public education planning with long term economic needs and reduce structural skill gaps.
The methodology will be updated each year in three stages: data collection and verification, development of baseline and alternative macro scenarios, and forecast calculations. The data sources include the State Employment Service, the State Statistics Service, the Pension Fund, and the Institute of Demography. All inputs will be consolidated in a new information system named Obrii.
The results are intended for the Ministry of Education and other agencies to set budget funded study places and training priorities. The initiative is positioned as part of the Employment Strategy to 2030 and a broader labor reform package focused on building a strong engineering workforce for energy and defense industries.
At the same time, the materials point to a persistent shortage of workers and wage pressure across many sectors. The long range forecast is meant to provide a stable framework for workforce policy and help businesses plan investments in skills.
