Ukraine’s fruit and vegetable market is moving in different directions at once. New-season cabbage and strawberries are becoming cheaper as supply grows, while carrots, cucumbers and old cabbage stocks continue to rise.
The pattern reflects a typical but sharp seasonal transition. Fresh local produce enters the market and pressures prices down, while last year’s stored vegetables become scarce and more expensive.
Why prices split
Early cabbage is falling because supply is expanding quickly. At the same time, old cabbage is rising as warehouse stocks shrink. Carrots are also becoming more expensive, while the cucumber market remains tight for a second week in a row.
Some categories are easing as local producers increase deliveries. Zucchini, cauliflower, Chinese cabbage and fresh greens have moved lower. Eggplant has gone the opposite way, showing how sensitive the market remains to limited supply and import balance.
For retailers and food processors, the mixed trend means planning remains difficult. The market is already moving from storage logic to fresh harvest logic, but not all categories make that transition at the same speed.
