Ukraine’s dairy sector has presented a roadmap for European integration, a strategic document that defines how the industry should move toward EU standards and access to European markets.
The roadmap was prepared by sector associations, including the Union of Dairy Enterprises of Ukraine, together with state bodies and with support from international donors from Switzerland and the Netherlands. Work on the document lasted two years and involved 11 working groups.
From chaos to sequence
The goal is to replace fragmented adaptation with a systematic transformation of European requirements inside Ukraine. Deputy minister Taras Vysotskyi said about 70 percent of producers can already become full participants in EU-oriented production and supply chains in terms of milk and dairy quality.
The remaining 30 percent will need support, investment and practical implementation. The sector wants to complete the main steps within three years, turning the roadmap from a document into production practice.
Export and added value
The European market is important not only as an export destination, but also as a school of quality. Meeting EU requirements can help Ukrainian producers compete in many other markets as well.
Industry representatives point to strong potential: last year Ukraine exported more than 131 thousand tonnes of dairy products. The next stage is not only raw material exports, but deeper processing, stable quality systems and higher added value.
